Graduation dress

I can't believe my son has graduated high school!  I wasn't sure what to wear, so why not make a new dress.  I wanted a vintage looking fabric for a dress and I found a great piece of fabric from Ebay.  I purchased a Japanese fabric and was very happy when it arrived. It washed up great and after pressing, it had great body.  I was undecided as to the pattern I wanted, it was between two dresses from Burdastyle.com. One was a tea dress with short sleeves and the other was sleeveless.  I was really torn, but decided to go with the sleeveless one. You can find the picture and pattern here: http://www.burdastyle.com/pattern_store/patterns/poplin-dress-052013

I don't know how many of you use burdastyle patterns, but the instructions are very limited! Luckily I enjoy challenges, but this dress wasn't very challenging, so I was able to spend my time fitting this dress.

Fitting issues:
I have a long torso so I make adjustments for this, also I looked at the finished measurements of the dress. Based on my measurements and the pattern measurements, I added on to the pattern.  Well, maybe my math was off that day!  After I cut all the pieces out, I started the fitting process of the bodice.  Well I ended up taking in the amount of fabric I added on! I still have some gaping at the back armhole, and the neck line is too low for me but I really like the pattern!  I have already fixed the pattern for my next dress. Due to the neckline being too low, I inset a piece of lace and I really like it.

Have a look for yourself!
